Why you should moisturise your legs and feet skin daily

Why you should moisturise your legs and feet skin daily

There is only one way to achieve healthy-looking, glowing skin, and that’s with everyday moisturisation.

Your skin is the biggest organ in the body and, as such, is the barrier that keeps you protected from the environment. Therefore, its health matters. When you keep your skin hydrated and in optimal condition, it can do its job properly, i.e. protect you against germs, regulate your body temperature and enable tactile sensations. More so, it not only makes you look but feel great.

What it’s important to bear in mind is that our skin needs water. Thirsty skin becomes dry and dehydrated and, as such, prone to cracking and premature ageing.

Dry skin on your legs & feet can cause chapping, flaking and itchiness, which doesn’t look or feel very nice. Also, when skin becomes extremely dry, it is a lot more susceptible to infection, ulceration and deterioration over time.

Factors such as our diet, changing weather, hormones, age, and medical conditions can all affect the health of our skin and how it reacts and feels every season. Hence incorporating a good quality moisturiser into your daily routine will ensure that your skin stays healthy and as hydrated as it should be.

What’s more, because the legs and feet’s skin is different, it will naturally demand the use of appropriate skincare to retain optimal hydration levels.

If you look at your foot skin, for example, you can see that it’s a lot thicker in texture than the skin of your hands. We could almost describe it as ‘hardy.’ So, to keep it well hydrated, you’re going to need to feed it with a product that can penetrate this thickness and retain water. I would advise that you look for products containing naturally derived ingredients, such as Apricot oil, Cocoa butter, Avocado oil and Jojoba to help hold and preserve moisture.

Not only does daily moisturising make your legs and feet’s skin feel healthier, but it restores its natural glowing appearance. And nothing quite compares to that feeling of silky soft skin, for sure. It fills you with body confidence like no other. Besides, maintaining optimal hydration levels will also prevent some common foot complaints, such as corns, calluses, and cracked heels, or getting chapped, flaky skin on the legs.

Moisturising your body shouldn’t be a chore but an act of self-love. If you know me, you have probably heard me talking about how important self-care is and how therapeutic it can be for your mind and body. Dedicating 5 minutes to yourself after a shower or bath to applying moisturiser and massaging your legs and feet can give you a moment to connect with yourself, reflect on the things that matter to you, and simply enjoy a minute of silence.

I know from personal experience that taking care of our bodies brings instant rewards, like gaining a sense of calm, comfort and positivity. And because pressing the pause button is the best way to manage your stress levels and overall well-being.

At Callen Olive, we make self-care a daily practice and incorporate it into our routines. It’s our way of being grateful for who we are and appreciating the joy of living. And what better way to do it than pampering our bodies?
